We had a lovely dinner sunday at the Hern mansion...Consisting of city chicken.,,Of which the origins are not entirely known...It is rumored to have originated during the Depression Era, when people took meat scraps and fashioned a makeshift drumstick out of them...
It seems to be regionalized to the areas surrounding Pittsburgh Pa, thru the panhandle of West Virginia (my birth state in case you wanted to know) as far west as the western suburbs of Cleveland Ohio and Hamtramck Michigan...
So don't be looking for any city chicken west of Hamtramck Michigan or you might be in for a surprise...
Also I believe (not verified) that before wooden skewers were available , small twigs or tree branches may have been used...
